Identification of wood destroying organisms and wood species
Insects and fungi: Basidiomycetes, especially dry rot (Serpula lacrymans), soft rot, sap stain, mould and bacteria.Tips for sending fungal samples by mail:
For good results we need samples large enough and in good state. Please send differentiated, older mycelia or wood samples overgrown by mycelium. Please pack in paper bags, NOT in plastic, because even slightly moist samples develop mould under plastic foil. If possible please provide additional information about the type of building, its history and the place from which the sample was taken. Pictures of the surroundings help a lot. Please fill out a sample form to make sure that all necessary data are provided and send it to MPA along with the sampe. You can download this form directly here (PDF).
